The Church’s Worship Helping The Culture

April 6, 2016 by Phil Auxier

Great quote from Marva Dawn’s Reaching Out Without Dumbing Down:

“Christians can help society recognize the danger of its loss of reasonable discourse in the all-consuming ubiquity of entertainment.  By offering worship that educates instead of entertains, that uplifts and transforms through the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2), the Church exposes the meaninglessness of our present culture.” (p.72)

Red Cup?

November 12, 2015 by Phil Auxier

A big issue that emerged this past weekend had to do with the lack of Christmas promotion on Starbucks red Christmas cups.  Here’s a link I found most helpful:

When We Love Outrage More Than People by Ed Stetzer

A quote:

Folks, we really need to calm down. If you’ve posted an outraged Facebook update, take it down.
Starbucks cups are red because of the Christmas season. Starbucks is not persecuting you. Starbucks may be attempting to respect those who don’t celebrate Christmas—and that’s OK. That’s their choice. They’re a business that exists to serve all customers without preference, regardless of what winter holidays they do or do not celebrate. If they choose to do that by means of a plain, red cup, that’s their call.
I’m not going to opine on all the motives behind a solo red cup, but, perhaps this is because our society is becoming more secular (even though Starbucks has other Christmas-themed products available). If it is, we still need to learn to live together in our society.

Weekend Recap (Part 2) – 11/1/15

November 3, 2015 by Phil Auxier

At 5PM on Sunday 11/1/15, a group met at church to pray for our country and find encouragement in God’s Word.  We began watching Russell Moore’s sermon from the 2015 For the Church Conference on Truth and Culture.

After watching this sermon, we spent some time in prayer, using the Life Action Ministries resource Prayers That Birth Revival.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
