My 2/24/13AM sermon, The Risen Christ, from Revelation 1:9-20 highlighted how the Risen Christ was active to instruct John to write for the good of the churches, to reveal Himself and to reassure His people. We tend to make so many minor things the major issues of our day when the Bible holds out Jesus, the Risen Christ, as the compelling vision of our lives for eternity. My sermon helped to give a picture of Christ that can give us grounding for the future, no matter what we face.
Weekend Recap – Rhythm?
My 2/17/13AM sermon, Introductory Rhythms, from Revelation 1:1-8 is now online. It was a relief to finally be in this book and lay aside the introductory themes we have hit for a couple of weeks. This introduction to the book helped establish some rhythms for us to consider. Specifically, we saw that this revelation was given to encourage us, there’s a blessing found in this book and that Jesus is returning.
Hope you had a great Lord’s Day, as well.
Our men met in the evening continuing our study of 33: Authentic Manhood. There is some good fruit developing from that, as well.
Weekend Recap – Overview
My 2/10/13AM sermon, Overview of Revelation, which surveyed some big themes in the book of Revelation is now online. I enjoyed this sermon and the chance it gave me to pull back so that we don’t miss the forest for the trees when it comes to the amazingly encouraging book. I hope you’ll listen and see this big picture. God really wants to encourage His people through this book.
Hope you had a great Lord’s Day.
Weekend Recap – Introducing Revelation
We kicked off our series on Revelation yesterday with a sermon entitled Introducing Revelation. My simple aim in this sermon was to help orient everyone in the room to way I intend to handle the book and some guardrails we must have in place in studying it.
I’m really hoping that this book proves helpful for us as a people.
Here’s a pic of some was we tricked out our worship room to go along with the study:

Weekend Recap – Valuing Life
Yesterday morning at Crestview, I continued my series on “Body Builders” by examining the concept of Valuing Life from Proverbs 24:10-12. I tried to show some incentives from God’s Word about why we should value life. If we live to value life, it may be costly, it is our calling and excuses are not an option. My sermon went with the Sanctity of Human Life Sunday. This is a day when churches are encouraged to fight against the atrocities of legalized abortion in America. I’m hoping my sermon in this regard helped foster an atmosphere of grace in thinking about this issue for people.
Hope you had a great Lord’s Day as well.
Weekend Recap – Word, Work, Other Good Things
As I try to wrap up Sunday, 1/13, there are lots of highlights. I really enjoyed teaching my Sunday School class, which overviewed the concept of Missions in the Old Testament. We charted the course of creation to the promise to Abraham to David and the New Covenant. It was a good time and the class did a good bit of work to dig in.
My AM sermon from Matthew 9:35-38 entitled God’s Word and God’s Work is online. This sermon sought to unpack the connection between God’s Word and His work, specifically in leading us to be people of compassion, on mission with Him and prayer fervently.
On Sunday PM, we launched a new small group curriculum entitled Gospel Identity. I’m really hoping this study helps orient our people in the Gospel in deeper, lasting, abiding ways.
Hope you had a good Lord’s Day, as well.
Weekend Recap – Week of Prayer
My 1/6/13AM sermon, Praying for God’s Work, from Matthew 9:35-38 is now online. (This sermon kicked off our church’s Week of Prayer. Devotional available here.) The sermon sought to unpack how prayer is really an important part of God’s work, using the life and ministry of Jesus as example #1. We don’t treat or think of prayer as an important part of God’s work, but Jesus draws the connection close. Hopefully my sermon pointed you to this truth.
Hope you had a good Lord’s Day yourself. Now, off to another week living for God’s glory.
Weekend Recap – For God’s Will
My 12/23/12AM sermon For God’s Will from Hebrews 10:5-10 is online. It continues our Christmas In Hebrews series which included sermons on why Jesus was born. This specific one showed how Christ came and abolished the law so that now we can be holy. I hope you had a great Lord’s Day on Sunday and, if possible, join us at Crestview for Christmas Eve worship at 6PM tonight.
Weekend Recap – Sympathizing
My 12/16/12AM sermon, Sympathizing, from Hebrews 4:14-16 not only continued our Christmas in Hebrews series, but also helped orient us in light of the amazing tragedy of last Friday. You see what we most desperately need is the solid foundation that God is not apathetic or aloof from the troubles of this world and this life. We have a Savior, in Jesus, who was tempted in all ways as we are yet without sin. We have a throne of grace that we can access because of Christ and receive mercy and find grace to help in times of need. We don’t have to raise our fist and wonder at God, but humble ourselves before Him, for He surely knows the pain of searing loss. He knows the cries of the hurting. And, He responds by actually doing something to remedy this for eternity. I hope you were encouraged in these things this Lord’s day and have a blessed week.
Weekend Recap – Lower For A Little While
My 12/2/12AM sermon, Lower For A Little While, from Hebrews 2:9 is now online. This sermon kicked off a new Advent series I’m calling Christmas In Hebrews. There are specific ways that God reveals truth to us in this book. Specifically, the writer of Hebrews says that in the present, we see Jesus. We see Him as God become man, as dying for glory and suffering for us. As we look with spiritual eyes into this truth, we can find reality for this Christmas season. I hope you had a great Lord’s Day, too.
