Weekend Recap – AM on Prayer

February 20, 2011 by Phil Auxier

We finished out our series on prayer by looking at Matthew 6:13. The sermon, Model Prayer (5), is now online. The big idea was that just like we need God to help with physical needs and our salvation, we also need His help for sanctification issues of fighting temptation and evil.

I’m hoping God uses these sermons on prayer in our church to draw us closer to Himself and make us a praying people.

Weekend Preview – Lead Us Not/Deliver Us

February 19, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Tomorrow, 2/20, we plan to spent some time in Matthew 6:13, wrapping up the Lord’s prayer. The basic idea is that the same God we trust for physical needs (daily bread) and ultimate spiritual needs (forgiveness) needs to be the One we rely on as we face temptation and evil. The sermon will highlight 3 ways that God provides for us in prayer.

As you prepare to come, what is the greatest underdog moment you can imagine? Maybe you think of the greatest upsets in sports history, biggest oversight, or something to that effect? Why did this really take place? What did it show? Might it be the case for us, too, that we fail to recognize our true Helper in facing temptation and evil?

I look forward to seeing you tomorrow…dv.

Weekend Recap – Forgiveness

February 13, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Today’s sermon, Model Prayer (4) from Matthew 6:12 is now online. In previous posts, I’ve tried to highlight what today would be about. Forgiveness was the major theme. R.C. Sproul said praying this prayer is a very dangerous thing. Hopefully, the upshot from this is that God will work through His Word to make us people who are quick to forgive others in light of the amazing grace we’ve been shown by the Father. I hope it encourages you to do so.

The forgiven are forgiving…

February 12, 2011 by Phil Auxier

This Lord’s Day, 2/13, we plan to look at Matthew 6:12 and what “and forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors” means. I’ve been greatly helped by Ken Sande and Peacemaker Ministries in my growth on this area.

Read the 4 G’s article and you will see Sande talk about the 4 Promises of Forgiveness (which I will allude to in Sunday’s sermon). Here’s the 4 Promises:

1. “I will not dwell on this incident.”
2. “I will not bring up this incident again and use it against you.”
3. “I will not talk to others about this incident.”
4. “I will not let this incident stand between us or hinder our personal relationship.”

Let’s anticipate great things from God tomorrow as we gather to revel in these truths…

Weekend Preview – Forgiveness

February 9, 2011 by Phil Auxier

This coming Lord’s Day (2/13/11) we will be honing in on Matthew 6:12 (…and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.) This will be my opening illustration from Rick Reilly on Aaron Rodgers’ unforgettable forgiveness. Summarized as:

To err is human. To forgive is divine.

To forgive in the Super Bowl, even better.

There are so many lessons for us to learn from what Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:12. Join us this Sunday as we explore these truths.

Weekend Recap – Daily Bread

February 6, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Today’s sermon, Model Prayer (3) on Matthew 6:11 is now online. This sermon sought to flesh out what a dependent, trusting heart looks like towards a God who can “give us this day our daily bread.” Hopefully the sermon was helpful in making your heart more dependent on the God who gave you life.

No service this evening. Hope you have a blessed week full of trusting the Lord for the basics.

Weekend Recap – Prayer and Prayer

January 24, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Well, we had another great Lord’s Day yesterday. In the AM, we looked at Matthew 6:10 in a sermon entitled Model Prayer (2). (There was a problem with the audio, but a manuscript will be available on Crestview’s Sermon Page.) Specifically, we looked at praying God-centered prayers for the Father’s reign and the Father’s will.

In the evening, my small group finished Thabiti’s book by seeing a healthy church member is a prayer warrior. In the course of discussing that, I mentioned some tools:

Valley of Vision is a collection of Puritan prayers.

Andrew Case has the Scripture based prayer books for husbands, wives and children.

Operation World will email you an unreached people group each day.

Donald Whitney spoke of using the Psalms to pray each day.

Matthew Henry also has a Scriptural way to pray the Model Prayer.

Grab these tools and be helped by them.

Weekend Preview – Model Prayer (2)

January 22, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Tomorrow, Lord willing, we will be looking at Matthew 6:10 in the AM service, which continues the God-centered direction begun in v.9. Think about your prayers, do they relate to the Father’s kingdom or His will? We need this corrective. See you then.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
