Better Ministry – For Real!

October 3, 2011 by Phil Auxier

My sermon from 10/2/11AM is online.  The sermon was entitled Better Ministry and was out of Hebrews 8:6-13.  This section of Scripture, which included the longest quote of the OT in the NT, pointed us to the ways in which Jesus’ ministry was better than the old covenant way of relating to God, since it was built on relationship and offered forgiveness for sins.

I trust it will help you to rest in the final work of Jesus alone for your sanity, but deeper, for your relating to God.

Weekend Recap – Better Than Angels

April 10, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Today’s sermon, Better Than Angels from Hebrews 1:4-14 is now online. In this sermon, I took another chance to exalt Jesus as the supreme One, not just in the fact of what He’s inherited but how His person and work set Him apart. I hope it proved helpful in the lives of people.

Chalcedonian Christianity?

December 18, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Here’s what they confessed at Chalcedon:

THEREFORE, following the holy fathers, we all with one accord teach men to acknowledge

one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, at once complete in Godhead and complete in manhood, truly God and truly man, consisting also of a reasonable soul and body;

of one substance with the Father as regards his Godhead, and at the same time of one substance with us as regards his manhood;

like us in all respects, apart from sin; as regards his Godhead, begotten of the Father before the ages, but yet as regards his manhood begotten, for us men and for our salvation, of Mary the Virgin, the Godbearer;

one and the same Christ, Son, Lord, Only-begotten, recognized in two natures, without confusion, without change, without division, without separation; the distinction of natures being in no way annulled by the union, but rather the characteristics of each nature being preserved and coming together to form one person and subsistence, not as parted or separated into two persons, but one and the same Son and Only-begotten God the Word, Lord Jesus Christ; even as the prophets from earliest times spoke of him, and our Lord Jesus Christ himself taught us, and the creed of the fathers has handed down to us.

This Sunday, we will look at verses (Colossians 1:19-20) that get at some of these truths. Confess this with other believers and come ready to exalt the Preeminent One, Jesus Christ.

Weekend Recap – Jesus Is The Greatest!

September 27, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Today’s sermon on the Supremacy of Jesus Christ from Colossians 1:1-4:18 is now online. I had a simple goal of letting God’s Word speak for itself and unfold how great Jesus is in this book. It was a fun day.

Also, reading the entire book during the course of a message was an interesting discipline. It seems that many preachers today are more anxious to comment on Scripture than to let them speak for themselves. Hopefully, people found that helpful.

I was struck by the sheer scope of the supremacy of Jesus. Still kind of awed by that! Hope you have a good week.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
