Week of Prayer 2018

December 28, 2017 by Phil Auxier

At Crestview, we begin each year with a week devoted to prayer.  This coming Sunday, I’ll preach on Matthew 6:9-13 and we’ll get right into a Week of Prayer.  There’s a devotional and we’re hoping for many spontaneous gatherings of prayer to come out of our body as we start 2018.  If there’s something I can pray for you, I’d be honored.  Join us Sunday at 10:15 AM as we kick off our week.

Gospel Friday – Jesus, Emmanuel

December 22, 2017 by Phil Auxier

At Crestview, we’ve been studying Emmanuel this Advent season.  And, I love how we finally get the full story in Matthew’s part of the Christmas story.  Here’s what we read:

[21] She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” [22] All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: [23] “Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).  (Matthew 1:21-23)
It’s a pretty simple Gospel connection today, but this Jesus who we celebrate this weekend was born to save people from their sins.  And, because of this, we can call Him Emmanuel, which means, God with us.
Today, celebrate the Jesus, Emmanuel Himself, was born for you.

Immanuel (The Shepherd’s Song)

December 19, 2017 by Phil Auxier

I love the music of Advent.  This year, Melanie Penn’s album Immanuel has been a great release.  It contains songs that showcase various perspectives of the characters in the Christmas story.  She even made a video, which I’m posting here, of her song Immanuel (The Shepherd’s Song).  I hope you enjoy it and dig into the fuller album.

Weekend Recap – Us

December 18, 2017 by Phil Auxier

My 12/17/17 AM sermon, Us – Emmanuel 2017, continued Crestview’s series for Advent exploring God With Us, Emmanuel.  This particular sermon dealt with Matthew 1:18-25 and how Jesus came to take away our shame, our sin, and enable us to live for Him.  We are His endgame.  I hope this sermon encourages you.  And, I hope this Advent season is one in which you continue to long for seeing Jesus someday.

Gospel Friday – Advent’s All Sufficient Sacrifice

December 15, 2017 by Phil Auxier

I’ve been enjoying working through the He Reads Truth Advent book this year.  Yesterday, the readings had to do with An All-Sufficient Sacrifice.

Read Isaiah 1:11, Isaiah 1:18, Isaiah 53:4-5, John 1:29, Hebrews 9:11-14, Hebrews 10:1-14

And, above all, this Advent season, focus in on the amazing gift of a sacrifice given for you: Jesus Christ, the Lord.

Weekend Preview – US

December 14, 2017 by Phil Auxier

We’re anticipating another great weekend this Advent season at Crestview.  This Sunday, during the 10:15 AM service, we will continue our journey into the truth of Emmanuel, God With Us.  My sermon will go to Matthew 1:18-25 and focus on the US of God with us.  We’ll see the end game of all that God’s up to.  We hope to see you there as we continue to marvel at the work of Jesus for us.

Weekend Recap – With

December 11, 2017 by Phil Auxier

My 12/10/17AM sermon explored the WITH of God With Us – Emmanuel.  This particular Sunday was a full Sunday, with our children having their annual Christmas program.  We had lots going on.  My sermon was quick (only 15 minutes) and dealt with John 1:14 and Hebrews 4:14-16.  God showed the power of His being with us by becoming human and living this life without sin.  I hope this sermon encourages you.

Gospel Friday – At Just The Right Time

December 8, 2017 by Phil Auxier

Romans 5:6 – “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.” (ESV)

Think of this, especially this Advent season, God intersected time and space at just the right moment.  It was just the right time for a Savior to come and rescue people.  He didn’t come for those who had their act together.  He came and demonstrated His love for us–while we were still sinners.  Let the longing you know in your heart this Advent this season be filled by the one who never misses an appointment or gets the timing wrong.  God’s timing is right.  At the right time, Christ died for the ungodly.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
