My 8/10/14AM sermon, Religious Unbeliever from Romans 9:1-5, is now online. This sermon sought to explain how relating to God by faith in Christ is the greatest pursuit of your life, even over and above any religious privilege. This is also the passage that many in Crestview will be studying as they review this sermon tonight in Small Groups (Romans 9:1-5 Talksheet). I’m hoping this sermon not only helps promote faith in Jesus, who is God over all and blessed forever, but fires your heart of love for unbelievers. Blessings.
Weekend Recap – Suffering To Glory
My 7/27/14AM sermon, Suffering to Glory from Romans 8:17-30 is now online. All around us we see that the most precious, most beautiful things come at a cost. It shouldn’t surprise us, therefore, that on the believer’s march to glory, we see suffering. This sermon was an attempt to give confidence and assurance to those who walk this path, that God may extend the grace needed for this journey to people through His Word. I hope it’s encouraging to you.
Weekend Recap – Peace With God
My 5/11/14AM sermon, Peace with God from Romans 5:1-11, is now online. The sermon sought to wrap up the big emphases of chapters 1-4, how we come under grace, and introduce chapters 5-8 with how we live in light of grace by helping everyone see some big implications of what being in a right relationship with God might mean for them. Specifically, I went after 4 implications for believers: 1) realities are affected, 2) God’s love is poured out in our lives, 3) we will be saved and 4) we’re full of joy. I hope it helps you and encourages you.
Weekend Recap – No Boasting
Boasting is such a sinister, sneaky thing in our lives. It seems like we’re merely drawing attention to something that we had a part in, but our motives for such a pursuit are often suspicious. My sermon on 4/27/14AM entitled Faith Alone: No Boasting from Romans 3:27-4:12 is now online. This sermon sought to show how being made right before God by faith alone should mean that we don’t boast in it as something we’ve done, but that we boast in the Lord. I hope this sermon encourages you in this regard and hope you had a blessed Lord’s Day.
Weekend Recap – Wrath Revealed
My 2/23/14AM Sermon, Wrath Revealed from Romans 1:18-32 is now online. The sermon unpacked how God’s wrath should drive us to be a people not defined by the sins we struggle with, but by our relationship to God in the Gospel. God is just to punish each and every sin. We are driven to be a Gospel people in light of this. I hope it was an encouraging sermon to you and hope you had a great Lord’s Day.
Weekend Recap – Gospel Eagerness
My 2/9/14AM sermon, Gospel Eagerness from Romans 1:8-15, is now online. The sermon sought to highlight how Paul encourages his readers in Gospel eagerness (or being eager to hear and speak all things Gospel). He encourages them by highlighting the mutually edifying nature of faith, showcasing how the Gospel is for all people, and by being eager to preach and hear the Gospel. I hope this sermon encourages your Gospel eagerness.
Have a blessed Sunday.
Weekend Recap – Romans Overview
My 1/26/14AM sermon, Overview of Romans, which was the second in 2 introductory sermons to this book, is now online. In it, I try to show how active grace is in moving in to change us, affect how we live, overflowing to all and shaping the church. I’m excited to dig into the specifics of verses now that these introductions are complete.
What themes stand out to you as you read the book of Romans?
Weekend Recap – Why Romans?
My 1/19/14AM sermon, Why Romans?, is now online. My summary of the book is: the glory of God in a united church on mission under grace. Today, I unpacked how the Gospel is found in Romans and that it’s found to encourage partnership in mission as well as peace among the church’s people. I hope it was helpful for our body as we started this study.
Weekend Recap – 1/12/14
My 1/12/14 sermon, God’s Greatness and His Word, from Psalm 145 is now online. The sermon sought to connect the big thoughts of God’s greatness to the revelation He’s given us, very specifically of Himself, in His Word. One of the big applications was from Psalm 145:5 and its call to meditate. I mentioned in my sermon some applications from Don Whitney. His website is filled with great articles, resources and other readings to help stoke the fire of Biblical meditation. So, this week. Slow down and see the wonder of God’s greatness in His Word.
Weekend Recap – 1/5/14
My 1/5/14 sermon, Praying to Our Great Lord from Psalm 145, is now online. This sermon kicked off our Week of Prayer and helped give some pointers in prayer in light of God’s greatness. I hope it is an encouragement to you. Blessings to you in this coming week.
