Chandler & The Magic Silver Bullet
Got some exercise this morning and listened to Matt Chandler’s sermon from 6/17/12. It was entitled Sowing, Reaping and Gospel Good from Galatians 6. I loved in the middle of the message when he pressed this idea so prevalent in some pockets of Christianity that holiness will just happen someday. That we will flip the switch and hear a sermon and the change will be instantaneous for sanctification. That will not happen. People who are allegedly called to ministry, for instance, don’t magically decide to not be lazy and start aggressively serving in the church once a church calls them to a position. If they are called that is their heart now and it should be seen now. This relates to our pursuing holiness. It’s sowing, then reaping. At any rate, take some time and listen to this word and be helped.
Gospel Project, Chandler, David & Goliath
Trevin Wax posted this video yesterday highlighting how to be Gospel-centered in looking at the Scriptures. This video is part of the promo for the Gospel Project and features Matt Chandler in a 3 minute clip on how to view a simple story like David and Goliath through Gospel Centered lenses. Enjoy.
American Monkeys…
…a recent sermon by Matt Chandler from Habakkuk 2:18-20 was very helpful to me. It’s entitled American Monkeys (Audio, Manuscript, Small Group Study Guide). I thought some sections that were very helpful included helping believers see how prone they are to idolatry as well as answering some common objections unbelievers might have to Christianity. Enjoy.
Must Listens: Tullian & Chandler
2 more amazing audio resources came available in recent days and, in God’s grace, they are available for free…
This past Lord’s Day, Tullian Tchividjian preached at Covenant Life Church on Jesus + Nothing = Everything from Colossians 1:9-14. There are amazing quotes and lines and truths from this that you simply must listen to. He discusses the 2 manners in which legalism tries to sink its tentacles into our lives, which was very enlightening. But take time and listen.
Also, 9Marks just released their leadership interview for the month. It is entitled Engaging Your Generation and features Matt Chandler. They summarize this interview as: “Matt Chandler discusses his past year, his approach to preaching, and what it takes to engage this generation with the gospel.”
Grab both of these and be edified and built up.

Free Kid’s CD – Jesus Came To Save Sinners
Following Matt Chandler’s Twitter Feed, I came across this new worship project for children released Sunday. The Village Church (the church Chandler pastors) has done a project for kids entitled Jesus Came To Save Sinners. Best of all, this project is available as a free download on their site (or you can ITunes or Amazon it for a cost). Here’s their description of this project:
“Jesus Came to Save Sinners” contains five original songs that teach children about the character and nature of God and His plan to save sinners through Jesus Christ. These songs correspond with the five foundational truths – Jesus Came to Save Sinners, God is Good, God is in Charge of Everything, God Wants to Talk with Us, God Made Everything – taught each weekend in our preschool ministry, The Little Village. The mission and vision of The Little Village is “to partner with parents to build a firm spiritual foundation for their children.” Our hope is that these songs will be an effective tool in engaging your children with the truth of who God is as you endeavor to obey the biblical call to bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. (Ephesians 6:4)
I would encourage you to take advantage of this amazing resource.
Free Audio – Chandler and Gamache
I’ve really had my soul fed by a couple of sermons you can grab for free off the web…
Matt Chandler has been working his way through Colossians. This sermon, Covenant with the Eternal Son, based on Colossians 1:15-18 was helpful, especially in his talking about why we study theology at one point. I would encourage you to take a listen.
Rick Gamache up at Sovereign Grace Fellowship in Minneapolis is preaching through 1 Peter. His sermon this past week, War and Witness, from 1 Peter 2:11-17 really gave good insight for indwelling sin and our war against it. He also wrestled with Scripture calling us to honor the emporer and what that means for us today. Really excellent message.
Enjoy.
9 Marks E Journal – Jan/Feb 2010
The Jan/Feb 2010 9Marks EJournal is now online (on Evangelical Liberalism).
This month’s 9Marks Interview is with Matt Chandler. Here’s a special appeal from Mark Dever:
This past August, Matt shared an hour with us to talk about his ministry. In light of what has happened to Matt in recent days, we contacted him about publishing this interview. He said he was very happy for us to present it, and that he was continuing to trust in God for the future. As you listen to this interview, thank God for our brother and pray for him.
As always, please take advantage of these amazing free resources.
Chandler – 7 Mile Sermon Jam
A Sermon Jam takes clips from sermons, sets them to music and it gives the message an interesting twist. Here’s one from Matt Chandler entitled 7 Miles…
