Recap of Bethlehem Conference for Pastors

February 6, 2018 by Phil Auxier

A few weeks ago, Luke and I went to the 2018 Bethlehem Conference for Pastors.  They finally have all the audio from this conference online.  Some I would direct your attention to:

Paul Tripp – Danger of Familiarity

John Piper’s kickoff sermon – Seeking the Holy Spirit

Sam Storm’s appeal to not quench the Holy Spirit – Don’t Quench The Spirit

Francis Chan – Praying in the Spirit

There were many other sermons that were all helpful.  We were really struck by these, though.  I hope these encourage you, too.

God in the Wilderness

October 10, 2016 by Phil Auxier

On 10/9 at Crestview, I was privileged to be freed from pulpit responsibilities and hear Kole Farney preach on Psalm 63.  The sermon, entitled Behold God in the Wilderness, walked through David’s time in the wilderness and drew out applications for us.  I’d encourage you to grab the audio and receive the benefits of God’s Word.

Weekend Recap – Trouble Free Hearts

September 11, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 9/11/16AM sermon, Trouble Free Hearts from John 14:1-14, is now online.  Jesus has all kinds of help for the troubles we face in our hearts.  And, His remedy is pretty simple: believe. In Him.  Be freed from trouble to do great works.  This is the direction for this sermon.  I hope it encourages you.

Weekend Recap – Love To The End

September 5, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 9/4/16AM sermon, Love To The End from John 13:1-38, is now online.  This wrapped up a busy Sunday morning this Labor Day weekend.  And, this sermon helped continue to move the direction we’re heading in the Gospel of John forward.  In this sermon, we have that classic scene of Jesus in the Upper Room with His disciples.  He washes their feet.  He exposes betrayal.  He gives them a new commandment to love another.  So, Jesus is on the move in this sermon to love His closest followers to the end.  In this passage, Jesus moves us to love, too.  I hope it stirs your heart and moves you to action.  Have an enjoyable Labor Day.

Weekend Recap – Funeral / Jesus’s Hour

August 28, 2016 by Phil Auxier

Had a busy weekend at Crestview.  First off, David Gaeddert passed away and our church hosted the viewing on Friday evening, following by a funeral service Saturday morning, with graveside following.  The family had asked me to preach the Gospel, and I used the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead to remind people of the compassion Jesus has for us in these moments, how Jesus gives life, and what Jesus being the resurrection means. I closed trying to read Romans 15:13 pointing to Gospel hope.  (We’re still editing the audio, but you can click on the Dave Gaeddert Memorial on our live stream page to watch the video captured).

Then, Sunday quickly came.  I preached on Jesus’s final words in a sermon entitled Come To This Hour from John 12:20-50.  This sermon unpacked Jesus’s final exhortation to the crowds before the upper room, arrest, and crucifixion.  To put it simply, He calls us from ourselves, to believe in Him, live for His glory, and escape judgment.  I hope the sermon encourages you.

This was the weekend.  Feel free to take advantage of any of these resources.  Have a great week.

Weekend Recap – Haters Gonna Hate

August 22, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 8/21/16AM sermon at Crestview Bible Church is now online.  This sermon continued our series out of the Gospel of John, focusing in on John 11:55-12:19.  I was intrigued by the sinister motives that emerged in this section that kept people from following Jesus.  Things like religious zeal, love of money, being threatened, and jealous envy can easily distract us from Jesus.  I summarized this in the title of the sermon: Haters Gonna Hate.  I hope it encourages you.

Weekend Recap – Shepherd and Sheep

August 7, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 8/7/16AM sermon, Shepherd and Sheep from John 10:1-42, is now online.  This sermon continues our series through the Gospel of John.  Jesus is giving a disclosure to His audience of who He is and turns to use the ideas of shepherd and sheep to convey some rich truth about trusting in Him and experiencing the abundant life He offers.  I hope this sermon encourages you.

Weekend Recap – Light of Works

July 31, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 7/31/16AM sermon, Light of Works from John 9:1-41, just went live online.  In this amazing passage, Jesus, who emphatically refers to Himself as the Light of the World again, shows that He is doing the works of God.  Specifically, He heals a man who was born blind on the Sabbath.  There are all kinds of applications in this sermon like God’s ways being higher than ours, our hearts being drawn out, God’s glory being seen in changed lives, and Jesus bringing judgment in exposing those who are blind and those who see.  I hope it encourages you and helps you make progress in your spiritual journey.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
