Dangerous Calling Email – Fears

April 17, 2013 by Phil Auxier

Here’s the email I sent church leaders today, 4/17:

Today, we continue working through Dangerous Calling as weekly reminders of the high calling of local church leadership.  We are getting into Chapter 9 “Dirty Secrets”.  I think we probably all resonate with Tripp’s 4 Debilitating Pastoral Fears: 1) Fear of Me – illustrated in Gideon’s fear of Gideon, 2) Fear of Others – illustrated in Peter in Galatians 2:11-14, 3) Fear of Circumstances – illustrated in Abraham and Sarah’s situation, and 4) Fear of the Future – being paralyzed by the “what ifs.”  The remedy?  1) Humbly own your fears.  2) Confess those places where fear has produced bad decisions and wrong responses.  3) Pay attention to your meditation.  (what are you thinking about?)  4) Preach the Gospel to yourself.
Let’s engage our fears so that we may be men of faith who courageously lead our people to deeper expressions of faith.

Andree Seu Audio

May 19, 2010 by Phil Auxier

Last month, our women’s leadership team went to a Women’s Retreat at Bethlehem Baptist Church on trusting God in the midst of fear. The audio from that conference is now online:

Session 1 (Getting Real) – Audio / Notes
Session 2 (Believing Your Own Self-Evaluation) – Audio / Notes
Session 3 (A Surprising Discovery) – Audio / Notes

Sunday Recap – Courage and Fear

May 3, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

I thought we had a great Lord’s Day today.

The morning service featured our congregation learning I Will Glory In My Redeemer, having a baby dedication, and a sermon on courageous discipleship from Mark 14:43-52. The brunt of the message had to do with courageously following Christ not from misguided actions or failure, but with a firm eye on Jesus and His view of history unfolding according to His Father’s plans.

The evening service featured a new song called Hallelujah (Your Love Is Amazing). The message from Hosea 5:1-15 focused on rightly fearing God as our Righteous Judge. It was an awe-some picture of God in His Word.

I feel really encouraged and mindful of all that God did in our midst today. Any thoughts from anyone who was there today?

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
