Platt: “Do We Believe What We Say”

March 23, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Wouldn’t expect anything less from Platt, but here’s a great video on universalism and the spreading of the Gospel. May we be struck with the awesome implications of this video by diligent application and devotion to the mission.

Platt on Conversion…

July 22, 2010 by Phil Auxier

From the sermon, The Gospel Demands Radical Giving:

The Gospel Demands Radical Giving – David Platt from Together for Adoption on Vimeo.

At the 8:40 mark on the video, Platt says:

To be a follower of Christ means: To come to an awareness of your sinful rebellion against God and to see in Jesus the only substitute for your sins and by His grace to turn from your rebellion against God and to trust in Him as the Lord and Sovereign King over your life and when that is the case, then what Jesus says determines how you live.

This quote really shows the shallow, nominal way many of us treat our conversion. It really is more than just repeating a prayer after someone and meaning it. Conversion is banking all that we are on Christ.

Radical Review and Response..

May 25, 2010 by Phil Auxier

In a previous post I spoke of David Platt’s book Radical, which I had the opportunity to read last week. Justin Taylor interviewed Platt about the book and promised more to come. Today, Kevin DeYoung reviewed the book and allowed Platt to respond.

A few things:
1) The message of Platt’s book needs to be heard for many of us who are more devoted to the American dream than we are to the basic demands of the Gospel.
2) The charitable dialogue you will find in the links above reflects what’s best about being Gospel-centered.
3) If you are looking for some other Platt resources:
His T4G Breakout Session is online. But, if you have the time, you could listen to the Radical series from the Church at Brook Hills, where Platt pastors. This would give you the audio content found in the book (in about 8 messages).

Praying for the Persecuted Church

May 10, 2010 by Phil Auxier

On Saturday, I received my latest edition of Voice of the Martyrs magazine, calling us to be praying for the needs of the persecuted church. There’s even an online map showing the areas of greatest need. Let’s pray for perseverance and boldness for Christians among these nations.

On a related note, David Platt does Secret Church which is one outlet for tapping the needs of the persecuted church. The website says:

When we think of “church” in America, we think of going to meet at a building, singing, praying and hearing a message from a Pastor or teacher. But in many places around the world, “church” meets in a home, an apartment, even in secret. These small groups of Christ-followers often meet for many hours in study, prayer and fellowship, as it is dangerous to travel to “church” and they want to make the most of their time together.

Secret Church is our “house church,” where we meet periodically for an intense time of Bible study–lasting 4-6 hours–and prayer for our persecuted brothers and sisters across the globe. This is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. But if you desire to know God more deeply through His Word, and know His Church more fully around the world, then please join us for Secret Church.

God will use this focused time of study to enrich our knowledge of His Word as we gain understanding of the state of His Church and our persecuted brothers and sisters around the world. The objective of Secret Church is for you to pass along what you learn to others, so that you can make disciples of Christ–both locally and globally.

Check out the resources. But above all…PRAY!

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
