Staying Ahead of Conflict by Your Relationship with God

March 30, 2016 by Phil Auxier

Many times we view conflict on a purely horizontal level.  This person did that to you or that person is doing this.  But, this podcast cuts through to these external realities to what’s in us and what emerges when we’re squeezed (and we all will be).  Search your heart.  Where do conflicts come from?  Don’t they come from desires that rage within you?  (James 4:1)

I love how this was spelled out in the Truth in Love podcast this week.

“I think the key to having the right attitude [in the midst of conflict] towards the other person is having the right attitude towards Christ.  If you see yourself as the chief of sinners and you’re daily marveling that God shows you mercy, then, when someone sins against you or you see things building that — you get squeezed that grace is going to come out rather than law and wrath.  And so, it’s primarily your attitude toward the Lord and having a gracious disposition based on the Gospel; because, as two sinners living together there will be tension.  There will be this build up you’re describing and you’re going to get squeezed… But, it’s what inside of you that’s going to come out when you’re squeezed and since you don’t know when the squeezing is going to happen, you want to be very careful in your own walk with the Lord.”  – Jim Newheiser

Marriage Sermons Online…

May 31, 2015 by Phil Auxier

My sermons from 5/24/15 and 5/31/15 are now online:

God-Centered Marriage (Communication) – Genesis 1-3 was given on 5/24 and helped come up with a Biblical foundation for communication and, turning the corner, impart some measure of grace in how we can use our words for God’s glory.

God-Centered Marriage (Conflict) – James 4:1-10 was given on 5/31 and helped show how conflict is rooted in our our selfish hearts.  Humility was encouraged as the God-given way to engage in conflict.

I hope these contributions help encourage positive actions in marriage.

On Disagreeing…

…from Chandler, Horton, Keller…

In light of last Sunday’s encouragement to exhort one another as long as it is called today, this video is very timely. Enjoy!

The Wife’s Responsibility in Conflict

September 13, 2010 by Phil Auxier

(…with the husband’s responsibility as well)…

From John Piper:

Summary:
“So I would say a wife’s role is to see all that God enables her to see and then ask the Lord for wise and humble and submissive ways to share, to bring into her husband’s life her perspective on things. And it’s his job as a leader to be humbly receptive to those kinds of things and then to take action.”

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
