Weekend Preview – Jesus Is Enough

May 31, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Lord’s Day, we’re going to explore John 6:1-21.  There are three amazing stories here: Jesus Feeding the 5000, Jesus withdrawing from the crowds, and Jesus walking on water.

The point of this?  Jesus is enough.  It doesn’t matter what your need is, Jesus is able to supply all the you need.  He’s one you can rest in, rely on, and trust in.  Read this passage and see if Jesus isn’t up the challenge of all the you need.

Weekend Recap – Hearing and Believing

May 30, 2016 by Phil Auxier

“If Jesus were alive today, He’d…” so begins the meta-narrative that so many in our culture espouse.  And, the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever has spoken.  My sermon from John 5:19-47 entitled Hearing and Believing is now online (preached on Sunday, 5/29).  Part of what I get at is that if Jesus were alive today, He’d be just as out of step with the culture as He was with first century culture.  Why?  Because what He had to say had to do with who He is and how we respond to Him.  So, do you hear and believe Him?  I hope this sermon helps you understand why you should do this.

Gospel Friday – Judgment or Life, Which?

May 27, 2016 by Phil Auxier

Jesus makes truth so plain for any who come to Him.  This rings true in John 5:24, where He says…

Will you listen to Him today?

Weekend Preview – John 5 (Jesus’ Defense)

May 25, 2016 by Phil Auxier

You may have questions about Jesus, who He is, what He’d say or do today.  But, have you considered what Jesus actually said?  In the passage we’ll explore this coming Sunday, Jesus helps connect why He does what He does with who He is, how it relates to Him being from the Father, and what it means for us.  There’s an excellent summary in v.24.  Read John 5:19-47.  Be prepared to hear what Jesus thinks.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24 ESV)

Weekend Recap – Seeking To Kill Jesus

May 23, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 5/22/16AM sermon, Seeking To Kill Jesus from John 5:1-18, is now online (we also discussed this sermon in Small Groups).  The point of this text is showing the increasing hostility between Jesus and the religious leaders.  The healing of an invalid on the Sabbath was the vehicle chosen to further the hostility.  At any rate, I hope this sermon helps you and you’re able to connect into God’s love for you through His Son.

Gospel Friday – Jesus Saves Sinners

May 20, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This Sunday, we’ll be exploring how the religious people were planning to kill Jesus.  So today, rest in the idea that Jesus came to save sinners.  He didn’t come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

He invites people like you and me.  Praise God, Jesus saves sinners.

Weekend Preview – Killing Jesus

May 17, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Sunday, May 22nd, we will continue working through the Gospel of John and getting into John 5:1-18.  This Gospel moves quickly to that last week of Jesus’ life.  And, the plot builds in substantial ways in John 5.  Specifically, we learn why the deeply religious wanted to kill Jesus.  I hope you’ll come to see why religious wanted to kill Him and what this means for your life and mine.

Weekend Recap – Your Son Will Live

May 16, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 5/15/16AM sermon, Your Son Will Live from John 4:43-54, is now online.  This sermon dealt with the second sign we see in the Gospel of John.  It really shows how we all find ourselves in desperate situations, how Jesus draws our hearts out through this, leading us to faith and uniting us to other worshippers.  I hope it encourages you.

Gospel Friday – Bless The Lord

May 13, 2016 by Phil Auxier

It’s so easy to forget to speak well of the Lord.  Are you blessing Him today?  Is there encouragement in your heart because of who He is…

Consider Psalm 103:2-5…

It may not be what you feel, it may not be where you’re at, it may not be your heart today, but meditate and consider the amazing work of the Lord and find encouragement in Him.

Weekend Preview – Your Son Will Live

May 12, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Sunday, I’ll be preaching on John 4:43-54 and Jesus’ healing of an official’s son.  John tells us that “this was the second sign that Jesus did when He had come from Judea to Galilee.

It’s an amazing thing that Jesus would just speak the word and heal, but that’s what He did.  He did this so that we wouldn’t be stuck on signs and wonders, but would be stuck on who He is and what He says.  I hope to see you Sunday as we think about this.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
