Easter Weekend Recap – Someone Greater Than Jonah

April 22, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My Easter 2019 sermon, The Sign of Jonah (Matthew 12:38-41), is now online. Easter really is one message: Jesus died, was buried, and rose again on the 3rd day, according to the Scriptures. This Easter, I chose these words from Jesus as He interacted with the religious leaders to guide our people into enjoyment of resurrection truth. This sermon was able to discuss signs, the obvious work that Jesus did, as well as point to how glorious Jesus is as the Ultimate Prophet. I hope it encourages you.

Weekend Recap – 7 Sayings

April 14, 2019 by Phil Auxier

When Jesus was on the cross, there are seven sayings that came from His mouth. In my sermon on 4/14, I sought to prep our people for Holy Week by walking through these Seven Sayings of Jesus on the Cross. I hope this sermon helps give an awareness of who Jesus is and what He came to do.

April 2019 Song – Because He Lives (Amen)

April 9, 2019 by Phil Auxier

In April 2019, we’re teaching/learning the song Because He Lives (Amen) by Matt Maher and others. The lyric video is above and lyrics are below. We sing this in the key of G, as it’s more singable/playable than this key. But, I’m hoping that this song helps our hearts swell in love as we celebrate Easter. Enjoy!

Verse 1

I believe in the Son
I believe in the Risen One
I believe I overcome
By the power of His blood

Chorus

Amen amen
I’m alive I’m alive because He lives
Amen amen
Let my song join the one that never ends
(Because He lives)

Verse 2

I was dead in the grave
I was covered in sin and shame
I heard mercy call my name
He rolled the stone away

Bridge

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives ev’ry fear is gone
I know He holds my life
My future in His hand

Ending

Because He lives

Weekend Recap – Covenant Renewal

April 8, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 4/7/19AM sermon, Covenant Renewal (1 Samuel 12), is now online. We don’t think in terms of covenant as much in our society today, but we have all kinds of non-verbal agreements with people, so the concept readily applies. We tend to grossly underestimate the God of the Universe, thinking that our offending Him or sinning against Him isn’t that big of a deal, after all, He’s a God of love and grace. But, this passage helps call us back to center in how we think of Him. He is a God of love and grace and Samuel presses this to show how we should pursue a way of living in light of this. I hope these words encourage you to live and have a renewed relationship with the God who made you for Himself.

Weekend Recap – A New Hope

April 1, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 3/31/19AM sermon, A New Hope (1 Samuel 11), is now online. The sermon continued our work in the books of 1 and 2 Samuel, specifically dealing with some chapters showcasing the rise of Saul.

The sermon dug into what might be the one shining moment in Saul’s kingship. The Ammonites attack and upon hearing it, the Spirit rushes upon Saul and enables him to lead the nation to defeat the enemy. The passage ended with Samuel “renewing the kingdom” at Gilgal.

This story helped to show how we can respond when our enemies pridefully gloat over us, how the Spirit encourages us, and leads us to focus on God. I hope it encourages you.

Weekend Recap – God’s Actions in Saul’s Anointing

March 25, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 3/24/19AM sermon, Anointed and Acclaimed, which explored Saul’s anointing and acclamation in 1 Samuel 10, is now online. The sermon really got into God’s actions, that is, what He was up to through these events. And, God was working to give us confidence and hope even in this days we live here. I hope this sermon encourages you.

Weekend Recap – Providence

March 18, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 3/17/19AM sermon, Hand of Providence, from 1 Samuel 9, is now online. In this sermon, I was curious about all the ordinary things, the perfect coordinated timing, and simplicity of a meal as they related to Saul’s connection with Samuel. And, this served to be a good example of God’s providence, His ordering of ordinary things to accomplish His will. I hope the sermon encourages you. Further, I hope the reality of God’s providence causes you to trust Him in deeper ways. Have a great week.

Weekend Recap – Like All The Nations

March 12, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 3/10/19AM sermon, Like All The Nations, unpacked 1 Samuel 8 with a view toward how it relates to us today. And, quite simply, as the nation of Israel is crying out for a king (and rejecting God as their King and Protector), we see how we tend to do the same things they did. Specifically, sometimes we don’t believe God is enough, we ignore God’s clear wisdom because we want something, and we think that holiness isn’t worth living. I hope this sermon encourages you.

Song for March 2019

March 5, 2019 by Phil Auxier

This month at Crestview, we’re learning the song O Lord, My Rock and My Redeemer written by Nathan Stiff. CCLI: #7096627

Lyrics:

VERSE 1
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Greatest treasure of my longing soul
My God, like You there is no other
True delight is found in You alone
Your grace, a well too deep to fathom
Your love exceeds the heavens’ reach
Your truth, a fount of perfect wisdom
My highest good and my unending need

VERSE 2
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Strong defender of my weary heart
My sword to fight the cruel deceiver
And my shield against his hateful darts
My song when enemies surround me
My hope when tides of sorrow rise
My joy when trials are abounding
Your faithfulness, my refuge in the night

VERSE 3
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
Gracious Savior of my ruined life
My guilt and cross laid on Your shoulders
In my place You suffered bled and died
You rose, the grave and death are conquered
You broke my bonds of sin and shame
O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer
May all my days bring glory to Your Name

Weekend Recap – Responding To A Glorious God

March 4, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 3/3/19AM sermon, Responding to a Glorious God, unpacked the progression of people coming close to God in 1 Samuel 6-7. You could almost call this a revival, God slowly moving to bring His people back to Himself. He’s working. He’s helping. And, in the midst of this, we see people choose to walk in His ways, not their own. I hope this sermon encourages you.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
