My 7/31/16AM sermon, Light of Works from John 9:1-41, just went live online. In this amazing passage, Jesus, who emphatically refers to Himself as the Light of the World again, shows that He is doing the works of God. Specifically, He heals a man who was born blind on the Sabbath. There are all kinds of applications in this sermon like God’s ways being higher than ours, our hearts being drawn out, God’s glory being seen in changed lives, and Jesus bringing judgment in exposing those who are blind and those who see. I hope it encourages you and helps you make progress in your spiritual journey.
Weekend Recap – Light of the World
My 7/24/16AM sermon, Light of the World out of John 8:12-59, is now online (with Small Group Questions). In this sermon, I wanted to unpack what Jesus meant when He said He was the light of the world, that whoever followed Him would not walk in darkness but have the light of life. To put it simply, Jesus was seeking to move us. He wanted our lives to be affected with this truth of who He is. Therefore, this passage demands things from us and our lives. I hope it encourages you.
Weekend Recap – Is Jesus Really The Christ?
My 7/17/16AM sermon from Crestview entitled Is This The Christ from John 7:25-52 is now online. This sermon sought to answer that question. Another feature of this amazing passage was Jesus’s offer to come to Him and drink, that if we believe, then out of our lives would flow rivers of living water. I hope you engage with this sermon and it helps you progress in the way you live.
Song of the Month – Psalm 23
This month, we’re teaching Stuart Townend’s Psalm 23 in our worship gathering:
This song also will help teach this song as we seek to memorize this passage out of the ESV. Here’s a printable design from Elizabeth Wood to help the text be visually stimulating.
Weekend Recap – Judging Jesus Rightly
My 7/10/16AM sermon, Judging Jesus Rightly out of John 7:1-24, is now online. This sermon helped us unpack Jesus’s command of John 7:24 — “Don’t judge by appearances, but judge rightly.” It’s a command. From Jesus. To Judge. And, this passage helps us judge Jesus rightly be helping us focus on God’s timing, helping us see that Jesus’s teaching is from God, and calling us to not judge based on appearances only but rightly. I hope this sermon helps you, as well.
Weekend Recap – Day of Prayer
I tweeted about my amazing, terrific, horrible, awesome, and awe-inspiring day on Saturday:
This led me doing something I don’t do often, scrapping my sermon and humbly sharing my struggles with the people I love dearly. I called this a Day of Prayer. The first few minutes recap my story and it leads into some prayer points that I directed our congregation through:
Maybe this might serve you as a time to reflect on your relationship between you, God, others, our country, and Jesus Himself. I hope it profits you.
Weekend Recap – Bread from Heaven
My 6/19/16AM sermon, Bread from Heaven out of John 6:41-71, is now online. This sermon unpacked what the big deal was in the controversy about Jesus being the bread from heaven. Specifically, it showed how the Spirit gives eternal life through Jesus–Jesus alone. I hope it encourages you. We also had a baby dedication and took the Lord’s Supper together. It all proved to be a great morning. Crestview’s VBS starts at 6:30PM on 6/19/16. Hope you have a great Lord’s Day.
Weekend Recap – Bread of Life
My 6/12/16AM sermon, Bread of Life from John 6:22-40, is now online (we also discussed this in Small Groups). You may wonder what Jesus meant by such a statement and part of what I tried to do in this sermon was to unpack what Jesus was saying. There were all kinds of applications about coming and believing in Jesus, the nature of eternal life as Jesus raises up those who have been given to Him in the last day, and events simple worship that emerges from hearts who are dialed in to all the realities about Jesus that are revealed in this passage. I hope it helps give you some kind of hope in these days.
Weekend Recap – Jesus Is Enough
I enjoyed an amazing Lord’s Day yesterday, 6/5/16. My sermon, Jesus Is Enough, was from John 6:1-21 — amazing stories about Jesus feeding 5000, withdrawing from crowd, and walking on water — and highlighted the fact that Jesus Is Enough for all of our needs. I hope you find the sermon encouraging and it helps you deepen your trust in Jesus.
Another highlight of the day was teaching Ross King’s song Hallelujah For The Cross. I hope it encourages a love for the Gospel in the people of Crestview.
Weekend Recap – Hearing and Believing
“If Jesus were alive today, He’d…” so begins the meta-narrative that so many in our culture espouse. And, the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever has spoken. My sermon from John 5:19-47 entitled Hearing and Believing is now online (preached on Sunday, 5/29). Part of what I get at is that if Jesus were alive today, He’d be just as out of step with the culture as He was with first century culture. Why? Because what He had to say had to do with who He is and how we respond to Him. So, do you hear and believe Him? I hope this sermon helps you understand why you should do this.
