Weekend Preview – Jesus Is Enough

May 31, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Lord’s Day, we’re going to explore John 6:1-21.  There are three amazing stories here: Jesus Feeding the 5000, Jesus withdrawing from the crowds, and Jesus walking on water.

The point of this?  Jesus is enough.  It doesn’t matter what your need is, Jesus is able to supply all the you need.  He’s one you can rest in, rely on, and trust in.  Read this passage and see if Jesus isn’t up the challenge of all the you need.

Weekend Preview – John 5 (Jesus’ Defense)

May 25, 2016 by Phil Auxier

You may have questions about Jesus, who He is, what He’d say or do today.  But, have you considered what Jesus actually said?  In the passage we’ll explore this coming Sunday, Jesus helps connect why He does what He does with who He is, how it relates to Him being from the Father, and what it means for us.  There’s an excellent summary in v.24.  Read John 5:19-47.  Be prepared to hear what Jesus thinks.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24 ESV)

Weekend Preview – Killing Jesus

May 17, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Sunday, May 22nd, we will continue working through the Gospel of John and getting into John 5:1-18.  This Gospel moves quickly to that last week of Jesus’ life.  And, the plot builds in substantial ways in John 5.  Specifically, we learn why the deeply religious wanted to kill Jesus.  I hope you’ll come to see why religious wanted to kill Him and what this means for your life and mine.

Weekend Preview – Your Son Will Live

May 12, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Sunday, I’ll be preaching on John 4:43-54 and Jesus’ healing of an official’s son.  John tells us that “this was the second sign that Jesus did when He had come from Judea to Galilee.

It’s an amazing thing that Jesus would just speak the word and heal, but that’s what He did.  He did this so that we wouldn’t be stuck on signs and wonders, but would be stuck on who He is and what He says.  I hope to see you Sunday as we think about this.

Weekend Preview – Savior of the World

May 3, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Sunday, 5/8/16, is Mother’s Day.  In God’s providence, I’m reaching John 4:1-42 in my series through John’s Gospel, so Sunday’s message will deal with Jesus and the Samaritan Woman at the well.  It’s going to be a fun morning.  I love this passage, because it showcases that Jesus is for everyone…He’s the Savior of the world.  We look forward to seeing you then.

Exalting Jesus – Weekend Preview for 5/1/16

April 26, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Lord’s Day (5/1/16), our church will be continuing to make our way through the Gospel of John.  Specifically, my sermon will be on John 3:22-36.  The point of this potent passage is exalting Jesus.

Exalting Jesus, for many in the church, is one of those “duh” things.  We assume this.  We all affirm that this is reality.  Most wouldn’t dare say we shouldn’t.  But, tease out practicalities and we’ll quickly loose sight of Him for our pet issue.  So, this passage is an amazing corrective and focus for us to not lose sight of the point of the Bible: exalting Jesus.  I hope you’ll join us Sunday for this.

Weekend Preview – John 3

April 19, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Lord’s Day (4/24/16) is going to be full of a lot of amazing things…
1) My sermon will cover John 3:1-21, the famous story of Nicodemus coming to Jesus at night.  In this narrative, we have maybe the most famous verse of the Bible (John 3:16).  I love how Kent Hughes meditated on this and I had Elizabeth Wood develop some artwork on it (see the pic above).  So, I’m excited to think about eternal life in this passage.
2) Related to this, we will be having small groups and discussing John 3:1-21.
3) We’ll be taking the Lord’s Supper together.  We will be using the Ligonier Statement on Christology during this portion of our service.
So, I hope you plan to join us.  It’s going to be a great gathering to worship together.

Weekend Preview – Connections

April 5, 2016 by Phil Auxier

We’ve been anticipating this coming Sunday for a while (really since last year when we were in India).  On 4/10, we’re excited to welcome Vivek and Luke, some international partners of ours in India to Crestview.  We’re going to have a weekend to connect with them:

  • Church Wide Meal Saturday, 4/9, at 6PM
  • Sunday School, 4/10, at 9AM – Vivek sharing testimony, calling and about ministry
  • Corporate Worship, 4/10, at 10:15AM – Phil, Luke and Vivek sharing about connections we have to the work taking place in India
Please prioritize this and plan to be a part of this amazing Sunday.

Weekend Preview – Sign 1: Water To Wine

March 29, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Lord’s Day, 4/3/16, my sermon will come from back in the Gospel of John, specifically John 2:1-12 and the first sign in John’s Gospel where Jesus turned water into wine.

While many tend to quibble about the nature of the wine or even draw attention to lesser parts of the story, my focus is going to be on Jesus and what this particular sign reveals about Him and how it’s meant to move us.  Pray to this end.

Weekend Preview – Palm Sunday 2016

March 15, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Sunday, March 20, will be Palm Sunday.  It’s a great day to kick off holy week and celebrating Jesus’ work.  We’ll have children singing in our AM service and take our annual children’s photograph after the AM service.
In terms of sermon, I’m going to keep working through John’s Gospel, specifically John 1:35-51.  This passage unpacks some basics of what it means to be a follower of Christ, so the theme will work nicely with the emphasis of Palm Sunday.  I hope you’ll join us.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
