Weekend Recap – Day of Prayer

July 4, 2016 by Phil Auxier

I tweeted about my amazing, terrific, horrible, awesome, and awe-inspiring day on Saturday:

This led me doing something I don’t do often, scrapping my sermon and humbly sharing my struggles with the people I love dearly.  I called this a Day of Prayer.  The first few minutes recap my story and it leads into some prayer points that I directed our congregation through:

Maybe this might serve you as a time to reflect on your relationship between you, God, others, our country, and Jesus Himself.  I hope it profits you.

Tri Perspectival Leadership…

April 20, 2010 by Phil Auxier

I found this chart by Leon Chingcuangco helpful. It is called “Triperspectival Leadership – Fulfilling the Offices of Christ“. The basic premise is that as Christ exhibits the offices of prophet, priest and king, so leaders in the local church will manifest those qualities. Specifically in this tool, the offices of Prophet, Priest and King are contrasted to examine Characteristics, Positive Tendencies, Negative Tendencies, Eventual Outworking, Errors of Uni-Perspectival Leadership, Possible Idols and Reductionism.

What was so helpful was seeing the apparent weaknesses that exist in my leadership, so that, by God’s grace, I can repent and believe the Gospel and see victory in these areas. Excellent tool.

Sun AM Preview – Sleep…

April 16, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

On Sunday AM, this weekend, (and Lord-willing), we will be looking at Mark 14:32-42. This section really gets at spiritual weakness again. Jesus demonstrating such spiritual strength in His humble submission to the Father’s will and the disciples’ failure to “watch and pray that they don’t enter into temptation.” David Garland, in his excellent commentary on Mark, writes how “spiritual drowsiness is dangerous and will prove the Christian’s undoing.” He then outlines 4 descriptions of what it means to sleep, largely informed from this passage:
– to sleep is to stop praying
– to sleep is to be unable to recognize the onset of trial or accept it as God’s will
– to sleep is to presume that the Spirit is willing without being mindful of the weakness of the flesh
– to sleep is to assume that we have arrived
(pp.555-556)

Spiritual drowsiness is spiritual weakness. Join us this Sunday as we seek to get remedies for this dreadful condition.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
