New Music I’ve Enjoyed…

January 21, 2016 by Phil Auxier

Some new projects I’ve enjoyed in recent days are:

Lauren Chandler’s Steadfast Love single.

This goes along with her new book.  The great people that surround her musically make this an excellent song to engage.

Passion’s Salvation’s Tide Is Rising

Here’s a video from the title track…Passion’s music rarely disappoints.

Breakaway Ministries’ Lift Him High

From Breakaway Ministries, meeting on the campus of Texas A & M.  Jeff Johnson and band have pulled together some amazing songs to help you exalt Jesus.

Music Review – Folk Angel’s All the Earth Rejoice

December 11, 2013 by Phil Auxier

Been listening A LOT to Folk Angel’s All The Earth Rejoice.  If you don’t know Folk Angel, according to their website, they “write and rearrange traditional Christmas songs, and through that creative process, retell the Gospel story that illuminates all things.”  I have most all of their projects, but this most recent one has been getting a lot of play, mainly because I enjoy the stylistic diversity.  There are traditional songs redone in fun ways, new songs that help us glorify Christ and songs that I anticipate using in the local church.  My favorite track features Isaac Wimberley and is entitled He Knows.

I can’t say enough to recommend this to you.  But, don’t just take my word for it…go over to the All The Earth Rejoice page and sample each of the songs.  And, then, give them support by purchasing it for your holiday worship and enjoyment.

Folk Angel is also on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram

“Go” Tell It On The Mountain

December 15, 2012 by Phil Auxier

Today, at Crestview, we are having Matthew Ellison from 16:15 in to talk missions strategy with us again.  It’s fitting that we have him in this time of year as Eva Everson writes in her two part post The First Christmas Song: Go Tell It On the Mountain.   She concludes:

This year, as you sing “Go Tell it On the Mountain,” think beyond the story in the lyrics. It began with a few shepherds in a field, it moved to the lowly and the rich—the sick and the dying, both physically and spiritually—in Israel, and was then given to 11 men standing on a mountain.

Now it lies with you and me. Let us go.

Here’s the lyrics to this beloved Christmas song:

Fallin’ by Trip Lee

May 8, 2012 by Phil Auxier

I’ve had this song, Fallin’, by Trip Lee on repeat today because I resonate so much with this fight for sin he highlights.  Here’s a link his latest album, The Good Life: Amazon or iTunes.

If you feel condemned in your sin, know that God sent His Son, Jesus, to the cross and your sin can be forgiven in Him.  You can be set free from this.  You can go from being mastered by sin to mastering it through the amazing power of the Gospel.  This is reflected in these lyrics.

The lyrics go like this:
I don’t really want it but it’s calling my name
“William come and get me I can take away the pain
Come a little closer you got everything to gain”
But I got too much to lose I’m bout to go insane
I been here too many times got my head low
If I gave a dime for every time I’d be dead broke
I feel that battle in my soul the pressure closing in
My passions askin for a passing I can’t hold it in
There I go again no self control again I’m too good at givin in
Feelin like throwin in the towel the guilt is closin in
Sometimes I climb the heights but I’m at my lowest sin
Cloaked in deception and overdosin on potent sin
I’m so gone baby wanna be home again
Wanna feel whole again come feel this hole again
Now I’m doubled over with my face in my knees
At Your side is where I wanna be

But there I go again fallin’
Face to the pavement
Once again faced with the same sin
(There I go again fallin’)
I don’t think Ima make it
Don’t know how much longer I can take it
(There I go again fallin’)
I’m caught up in this sin
I wonder if I’ll see Your face again
(There I go again fallin’)
Fallin’ (3x)
(But there I go)

Trying to keep it cool I don’t wanna lead em playin
But it’s hard to block out everything that she be sayin
Look like it keep coming baby just reach out and take my hand
There’s no need to fear me all I wanna do is dance
I believe the lie now I’m headed for my doom
They finally got me locked and now I’m bout to be there soon
Feeling like I’m watched by everybody in the room
Cause they know Ima fake and if not they will soon
Have you ever felt like the walls finna close in
Shackles on your hands and your feet and your dozin
Sleep to the logic you possessed before all of the mess
So beheaded mess with the rest what’s left
Is a schizophrenic still what a man once was?
Now you get to see the damage your lust does
So now I’m doubled over with my face in the knees
At Your side is where I wanna be

But there I go again fallin’
Face to the pavement
Once again faced with the same sin
(There I go again fallin’)
I don’t think Ima make it
Don’t know how much longer I can take it
(There I go again fallin’)
I’m caught up in this sin
I wonder if I’ll see Your face again
(There I go again fallin’)
Falling (3x)
(But there I go)

Everytime I fall He go’n pick me up
The Lord is my shepherd homie He go’n pick me up
I fell into the trap again but He go’n pick me up
Remind me of His promises in Him I put my trust
I don’t never have to give into the lies
I’m feasting on His word all my sin I do despise
So now I’m down before His throne praying on my knees
Asking Lord give me grace please

I don’t wanna be fallin’
So I gotta face this but I know there’s nothing that He can’t fix
(I don’t wanna be fallin’)
Looking to the cross where they place Him
Cause I know His grace is amazing
(I don’t wanna be fallin’)
He’s covered all my sin
It’s gone never to be seen again
So we’re callin’
Callin’ (3x)
(Unto You)

Music Recommendations – Stephen Miller

January 17, 2012 by Phil Auxier

I love good music.  I’m always checking out new music to find songs that can help our church corporately give praise to God.  I was hooked by a recent recommendation on this album and have listened to it and agree it is worth your time.

Stephen Miller – God and Sinner Reconcile
Stephen leads music at Journey STL (yes, home town props).  There are all kinds of Gospeliscious resources abounding in evangelicalism now.  Praising God for the amazing mercy He’s shown us in His Son has always been one of my favorite themes.  Grab this project, then, and be encouraged.  The project is available today on Itunes, Amazon or on Bandcamp.  Enjoy.

Music Links…

August 4, 2011 by Phil Auxier

…usually on Thursdays I post some links that I find useful and today I decided to make them about music…

First of all, today, Shane and Shane‘s new project “The One You Need” is available to download.  It won’t be released in stores until October.  Great chance to grab it.  Here’s a video of the title track:
. Based on the little bit I’ve heard, it will be amazing.

This past Tuesday Matt Papa’s new CD came out: This Changes Everything. Matt’s music just kind of tells it like it is. One song, entitled “Stay Away From Jesus” speaks of how this song won’t get played on Christian radio because Jesus calls us to come and deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him and it’s not a popular message. Anyway, I enjoyed that.

Matt Redman’s new project 10,000 Reasons is one of his best. Michael Bleeker said it has many good songs to use in the church and I would agree. I remember rolling to church this past Sunday listening to the title track and being filled with awe and wonder of God Himself.

I also downloaded the latest from Hillsong Live: God Is Able. It appears to be more of what we’ve come to expect from Hillsong.

Hope these links help give you some good, God-focused resources for worship.

Water and Blood – Get It @sojournmusic

May 3, 2011 by Phil Auxier

Sojourn Music‘s latest project The Water and The Blood (Hymns of Isaac Watts: Vol. II) is now available for purchase or download. Sojourn doesn’t really do a weak or undoctrinally robust project. This particular project has been long anticipated by me (since they released Volume 1 of Watts’ Hymns). Anyway, if you’re looking for some new tunes for the month of May, why not feed on these, with their deep and doctrinally relevant content. Here’s their promo video as well:

2 New Great Albums…

April 7, 2011 by Phil Auxier

In recent days, 2 outstanding worship projects have been released:

God Of Victory is the new worship project from The Village Church, where Matt Chandler pastors. This has been an amazing project for me to pick up. I’ve probably listened to it about 15 times in the past week and specifically, have enjoyed the song “Only The Blood.” The chords charts, chords with capo and story behind the songs, as well as other things are available on the album page.

Another outstanding album I’ve enjoyed has been:

Risen by Sovereign Grace Ministries. I love the opening track, which just makes my heart beat and specifically praise rise as I think about what God has accomplished for me in His resurrection. They have an album page as well as chords available on Bob Kauflin’s site, Worship Matters.

Check out these projects as you grow to sing a new song to the Lord.

Hillsong United’s Aftermath

February 23, 2011 by Phil Auxier

The latest album from Hillsong United entitled Aftermath is now available. It’s available from Amazon for $7.99 or from iTunes for $9.99. Hillsong United is one of my favorite groups. Songs from their past albums include: Salvation is Here, Lead Me to the Cross, Hosanna. This album came out last Tuesday (the 15th) and I’ve been listening to it pretty regularly. So…download and enjoy.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
