The Word of Victory

April 13, 2025 by Phil Auxier

This weekend, I continued Crestview’s series on Jesus’s seven sayings on the cross by focusing on The Word of Victory (John 19:30). I love this word of victory that Jesus announced when He said, “It is finished.” So many ramifications for our lives emerge from this, and I tried to tease some out in the sermon. I hope you are encouraged by this message. Have a great Holy Week.

Weekend Recap – He Washed My Feet

September 6, 2016 by Phil Auxier

I’m still reeling after the amazing weekend at Crestview.  We look at John 13 and Jesus washing His disciples feet.  Here’s a Southern Gospel song that I recalled today, helping me praise Jesus for His grace to me.  Enjoy…

Verse 1
The moment our eyes met I knew this was the night
That I would betray Him the precious Lamb of God
No other disciple was aware of my plan
‘Til He rose from the table
With something in His hand
His Holy eyes pierced through me
Revealing all my sin
I knew His wrath was coming
And this would be the end
Chorus
But He bowed and He washed my feet
Knowing that I was the cause of His grief
When He should have scolded He whispered peace
As He bowed and He washed my feet
Verse 2
Judas would fail Him but He’s no worse than I
The moment I gave in to Satan’s compromise
Ungrateful that Jesus had saved me from hell
I was walking so proudly
And that’s when I fell
His Holy eyes pierced through me
Revealing all my sin
I knew His wrath was coming
And this would be the end

Weekend Preview – Lazarus

August 9, 2016 by Phil Auxier

lazarus

This coming Sunday (Lord willing), we’ll continue our study in the Gospel of John at Crestview.  In particular, I’ll be preaching on John 11:1-54 and the revelation of Jesus as the Resurrection and the Life through the healing of Lazarus.

Some thoughts:

  1. I’m reminded of Tony Evans who said, “If Jesus hadn’t said Lazarus, come forth, all the dead would have come forth.”
  2. Carman.  Lazarus Come Forth.

Or, 3. if Carman is too much, here’s Greater Vision with their Southern Gospel hit, My Name is Lazarus.

Hope you enjoy these and come ready to see Jesus’s glory revealed in this amazing healing.

Weekend Recap – Light of Works

July 31, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 7/31/16AM sermon, Light of Works from John 9:1-41, just went live online.  In this amazing passage, Jesus, who emphatically refers to Himself as the Light of the World again, shows that He is doing the works of God.  Specifically, He heals a man who was born blind on the Sabbath.  There are all kinds of applications in this sermon like God’s ways being higher than ours, our hearts being drawn out, God’s glory being seen in changed lives, and Jesus bringing judgment in exposing those who are blind and those who see.  I hope it encourages you and helps you make progress in your spiritual journey.

Weekend Preview – The Blind See

July 28, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This weekend, Lord willing, at Crestview, we’ll be looking (he, he) at Jesus healing a man who was born blind in John 9.

There’s so much to say about this, so plan to join us Sunday, 10:15AM and come to delight in Jesus with us.  After all, as the famous hymn says, before Christ, “we once we blind, but now we see”.

Another thing this reminded me of was some classic Caedmon’s Call.  Here you go:

See you Sunday.

Weekend Recap – Is Jesus Really The Christ?

July 18, 2016 by Phil Auxier

My 7/17/16AM sermon from Crestview entitled Is This The Christ from John 7:25-52 is now online.  This sermon sought to answer that question.  Another feature of this amazing passage was Jesus’s offer to come to Him and drink, that if we believe, then out of our lives would flow rivers of living water.  I hope you engage with this sermon and it helps you progress in the way you live.

Weekend Preview – Living Water Can Be Yours

July 13, 2016 by Phil Auxier

Jn7.37-38

This coming Sunday, we will be continuing our work in John’s Gospel.  In John 7:25-52, there’s a big question on the table: Can this man really be the Christ?  In other words, can Jesus be the Promised One, the Messiah?  So, this passage unpacks who Jesus is.  It helps us see where He’s really from, the life He gives, and how we can judge Him rightly.  I hope to see you there as we hear Jesus address the concerns of our heart: our lack of trust and belief in Him.  See you Sunday.

Gospel Friday – Knowing Jesus

June 17, 2016 by Phil Auxier

Christians have a tendency to mope about wondering if what they believe is legit (at least, this has been the tendency for many that I know).  Sure, we all have those moments where we feel week.  But, today, I want to remind you of some amazing truth: you know Jesus.  This coming Sunday, we’ll talk about what it means to have Him.  But, let me remind you of what your Savior says from Revelation 1:17-18…

Today, will you rest in this and allow the reality of Jesus to consume you?  Have a great weekend.

Weekend Preview – Jesus Is Enough

May 31, 2016 by Phil Auxier

This coming Lord’s Day, we’re going to explore John 6:1-21.  There are three amazing stories here: Jesus Feeding the 5000, Jesus withdrawing from the crowds, and Jesus walking on water.

The point of this?  Jesus is enough.  It doesn’t matter what your need is, Jesus is able to supply all the you need.  He’s one you can rest in, rely on, and trust in.  Read this passage and see if Jesus isn’t up the challenge of all the you need.

Weekend Preview – John 5 (Jesus’ Defense)

May 25, 2016 by Phil Auxier

You may have questions about Jesus, who He is, what He’d say or do today.  But, have you considered what Jesus actually said?  In the passage we’ll explore this coming Sunday, Jesus helps connect why He does what He does with who He is, how it relates to Him being from the Father, and what it means for us.  There’s an excellent summary in v.24.  Read John 5:19-47.  Be prepared to hear what Jesus thinks.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life. (John 5:24 ESV)

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
