Sunday Review – Jesus, The Suffering Servant

July 19, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

This morning, had a full message on Jesus: The Suffering Servant from Mark 1:1-16:20, that’s right, the text was the entire book of Mark.

Tonight, during evening service, we are going to be sharing how Mark’s Gospel has impacted us as a church, so that should be exciting.

Anything stand out to you?

Summary of Mark…

July 18, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Tomorrow, Lord willing, we will be doing an overview of the Gospel of Mark. If possible, why not read through the book again before the morning service. Hopefully, you will be able to remember some amazing things that God has done for you in this book.

Go!

July 12, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

I thought we had a great Lord’s Day today. I finished up Mark 16:19-20 on Christ and His Followers. I was struck by a few things…

1) I am not the evangelist I should be.
2) The Gospel sets me free from disobedience to freely sharing the good news.
3) Much strategy can (and should) be employed in this terrifying campaign of advancing the Gospel.

What things stuck out to you?

iWitnesses to His Glory…

July 5, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Today’s sermon, “iWitness” from Mark 16:9-18 is now online. I thought God’s Word just opened up in amazing ways and we were able to see how we can be bold in our witness as well as how vast our witness should be. I hope this message was a service to you.

I was really struck by all the excuses I can make for not sharing the good news. May God shake us with boldness for Him.

Witness…

July 4, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Tomorrow’s sermon, entitled “iWitness”, will be over Mark 16:9-18. It seems that in the wake of the resurrection and the surprising ending of v.8, some witnessing did occur. Join as we gather together as the church and are reminded of the big kingdom calling that Jesus the Lord has planned for His followers.

Resurrection Realities

June 28, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Today’s sermon is up and thought I would post on it. Seemed like a different kind of sermon for me. So often, we talk about the resurrection as if it is some huge event and have a hard time drawing application. I’m not bemoaning the importance of it, but simply confessing how difficult it is to apply it to our lives.

Doctrine matters. The resurrection isn’t just about an important part of the Gospel. The resurrection affects the way we live. Mark 16:1-8 seems to point to that. How does this show itself in your life.

Sunday Review – Following

June 22, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Thought we had a good morning yesterday. The sermon, entitled Following Jesus, from Mark 15:39-47 is now online. The thrust of the passage, obviously was on the burial of Jesus. In Mark’s Gospel, with last week’s clear picture of who Jesus was, I think Mark intentionally gave us some pictures of what it means to follow, since that has been a major theme of Mark’s Gospel.

My three applications to conclude were:

Confess – speak of Jesus before men
Serve – identify with Jesus by serving Him
Courage – don’t be driven by the fear of man; courageously honor Christ

Hope you had a great Lord’s Day!

Weekend Preview…6/21

June 18, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

We are anticipating a good Lord’s Day. We’ll probably have some special arrangements to make for children and students in light of the mess. The sermon will be from Mark 15:39-47. Yes, we will be looking at the centurion, again. His confession is a capstone to this excellent book. The focus, though, in the burial of Jesus will be on these three remarkable characters we meet who are followers of Jesus. The centurion demonstrates his following in boldly confessing Christ. The women demonstrate following in identifying with the Savior and serving His needs. Joseph (of Arimathea) shows his following of Jesus in courageously extending honor to Him. We are thinking of what it means to follow Jesus, therefore, which is a huge theme in Mark. Hope to see you there.

Jesus Is the Christ…

June 14, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

Thought we had a glorious morning service, surveying the wondrous cross. The sermon, The Christ (Even In Death) from Mark 15:33-39, is online. There were many applications. I mentioned three:
1) I’m struck by how Scripture-saturated the Son of God was. In His most desperate hour and incredible suffering, He ran to the Scriptures, specifically Psalm 22:1 for comfort.
2) I’m amazed at how we try to sew the temple curtain back in two by placing religious deeds before the Gospel.
3) I’m convicted that the boldness of the centurion should stand as a challenge to us all to say with our lips “Truly this man was the Son of God.”

What applications struck you?

Preview – Christ

June 11, 2009 by Mere Agency Support

For the past few Sundays, we have consistently been looking at Jesus and who He is. We have seen the amazing suffering He endured and sought to get some measure of hope through it. This Sunday, we will continue our survey of the wondrous cross by seeing how Mark 15:33-39 reveals Jesus as the Christ (Even In Death). Hope to see you this weekend.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
