New Song – At The Cross (Hillsong)

August 13, 2019 by Phil Auxier

This past Sunday, we introduced a new song (to us) from Hillsong entitled At The Cross. Here are the lyrics and a video of a performance of it:

Verse 1

Oh Lord You’ve searched me
You know my way
Even when I fail You
I know You love me

Verse 2

Your holy presence
Surrounding me
In every season
I know You love me
I know You love me

Chorus

At the cross I bow my knee
Where Your blood was shed for me
There’s no greater love than this
You have overcome the grave
Your glory fills the highest place
What can separate me now

Verse 3

You go before me
You shield my way
Your hand upholds me
I know You love me
I know You love me

Bridge

You tore the veil You made a way
When You said that it is done
You tore the veil You made a way
When You said that it is done

Verse 4

And when the earth fades
Falls from my eyes
And You stand before me
I know You love me
I know You love me

Weekend Recap – Still More on God’s Plan God’s Way

August 12, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 8/11/19AM sermon at Crestview, God’s Plan God’s Way 3 from 1 Samuel 26, is now online. This was the third trial of David in the wilderness. And, this one showed some outcomes of what we can expect as we trust in the Lord and go about living out God’s plan in God’s way. The big takeaway for me here got at trust issues. If I trust God, then I will willingly yield to His bigness, see my faith emboldened, and have hope. So, I hope this sermon encourages you in this regard.

Weekend Recap – God’s Plan God’s Way (Again)

August 5, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 8/4/19AM sermon, God’s Plan God’s Way 2 from 1 Samuel 25, is now online at Crestview’s website. This chapter is notoriously famous for introducing a few new characters into David’s world: Nabal and Abigail. Following the events of chapter 24, another temptation emerges in the wilderness as David is given the choice to take matters into his own hands and work his own salvation or to trust in the Lord. He chooses the former and needs a rescuer from God Himself to restrain him from foolish action. I hope this sermon encourages you and helps you to trust God and not take matters into your own hands.

Weekend Recap – God’s Plan, God’s Way

July 29, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 7/28/19AM sermon, God’s Plan God’s Way from 1 Samuel 24, is now online. This sermon got into that story of David cutting off the corner of Saul’s robe and the speeches that flowed out of it. Doing God’s plan God’s way seemed to be driving David at this point. Related to this, was the idea of loving “enemies.” It’s difficult to wrap our minds around this because, honestly, most of us aren’t good at love in general, let alone loving our enemies. So, I hope this sermon provokes actions in keeping with love that lead to progress as we engage the world. I hope it encoruages you.

Generate 2019 Camp

July 23, 2019 by Phil Auxier

July 15-19, I attended the Generate 2019 Youth Camp in Estes Park with the students of Crestview. We had a great week with Roger Davis and his staff, being served by Camp Pastor Timothy Ateek and Worship Leader Jimmy Mcneal. I love youth camp and the way that we can deepen relationships with one another on the rec field, in worship gatherings, and Bible studies. Here’s a video highlighting the week made by Candice Gaeddert.

Weekend Recap – Contrasting Kingdoms and God, Our Helper

July 23, 2019 by Phil Auxier

As I’ve been out at Youth Camp last week, I didn’t get a chance to post the recaps of my sermons.

On Sunday, July 14, I preached 1 Samuel 22 discussing the Contrasting Kingdoms that seem to emerge in that chapter. It seems that the way Saul rules his people is contrasted pretty clearly with the way it seems David may rule. And, as we see this, we’re given some insight into how the rule of Christ will be.

Then, this past Sunday, July 21, I preached 1 Samuel 23 in a sermon entitled God, Our Helper. The need of your heart is to be strengthened by grace and specifically we see some ways our hearts can be strengthened to see that God is our Helper.

I hope these sermons encourage you and help you move forward in your living life to God’s glory.

Weekend Recap – Follow Jesus’ Spirit

July 8, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My good friend, Vivek, brought the thunder yesterday with a strong word from Acts 16:6-40 to Follow God’s Spirit. Vivek in a friend and an international partner we support. The sermon was challenging as Vivek’s aim was to encourage us to “prayerfully follow Jesus’ Spirit to see God’s kingdom break into your daily reality.” It was a call to live life on mission. And, I was convicted and encouraged. What a great word. Check out the sermon and hear the challenge for yourself.

Weekend Recap – God With Us

June 17, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 6/16/19AM sermon, God With Us (1 Samuel 18), is now online. I had been in vacation in the earlier parts of June (and been sick one week), so I was just getting back in the saddle with this sermon. The thing that stood out to me is how often we go at life alone, wondering where God is in the midst of our mess. But, God is with us. We can expect certain things as He is with us. And, this is what I try to unpack in this sermon. I hope it encourages you.

Weekend Recap – God Sees

May 20, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 5/19/19AM sermon, God Sees (1 Samuel 16), is now online. This sermon served to transition us from a section in which we saw the decline of King Saul and the rise of David. There were numerous instances of this idea of God seeing things, culminating in that encouragement to not look at the outward appearance for the Lord looks at the heart.

From David’s anointing to his service in Saul’s court, there are many pointers to Jesus as well as applications for our lives. I hope this sermon encourages and challenges you.

Weekend Recap – God’s Heart for Obedience

May 14, 2019 by Phil Auxier

My 5/12/19AM sermon, God Desires Obedience (1 Samuel 15), is now online. This sermon was a difficult one. It certainly didn’t prove to be a flowery Mother’s Day sermon (although it did highlight what makes all believers strong: their obedience to the Lord). In this sermon, God relented, Samuel said God doesn’t relented and we were told God relented, so there was that. I hope my explanation proved helpful.

In this chapter, I’ve always been puzzled about how obedience is better than sacrifice. I’ve thought worship was the highest aim. So, how could obedience be better. My explanation would go this way: sacrifice is easy because any of us can offer something else in worship. But, in obedience, I become the sacrifice. I die to all my wishes, desires, and authority and put myself under the One who has all authority. Therefore, worship of God is showcased more in obedience than in some outward show.

There was much in this sermon and I hope it encourages you.

From One Degree To Another?

Yeah, that's right. My one, consuming passion is Jesus Christ, my Lord. I'm totally gripped by one message: the Gospel - the good news that God came after me when I was far from Him. So, the life I live, I live by faith in Him: He loved me and gave Himself for me.

From One Degree To Another is the change that He's accomplishing in me by grace. Growing downward in humility, upward into Him, outward toward others, and inward with renewal characterize my existence.

This site is where I flesh all of these types of things out, including my life as a slave to Jesus, husband, father, coffee-enjoyer, and pastor. I hope it encourages you.
